The Fly

Image
Sound design is again very important - allows for tension to build as the spectators believe that there is a robbery happening behind the doors The growing annoyance of the getaway driver towards the fly is representative of the growing tension as the spectator begins to hear police cars blaring in the background - again linking to the importance of sound design

The Arrival

Image
Very similar in terms of  static cinematography to 'Operator', and similarly puts focus on narration and relies on subtle/nuanced performance Important to note:  - Points of expressionistic qualities - as the lighting fades away            - Internal emotions affecting the external world  - Expressionism made more emphatic by the general use of realism throughout the rest of the short

Operator

Image
Simplistic cinematography - forces focus on imagining the scene occurring on the other end of the phone  Abrupt ending representative of the life of someone in this job Sound design is very important to this short     - lack of visual proof but sound maintains the verisimilitude

Echo

Image
Narrative structure is key     - Non-linear - slowly reveals more about the lead     - Features a twist at the beginning where we think that the lead's father has died but in reality she was                running a scam     - Ambiguous ending - importance related to with whom the spectator is aligned with, the ambiguity aligns the spectator mostly with the people the lead scams - sense of not knowing the truth

Over(2015)

Image
Main Points to take away: - Subversion of 3 act structure  -  Tells story in reverse      - Allows for emphasis in shock of the man dying at the end of the film  Mise-en-scene  Police clothing and police cars - Verisimilitude

Screenplay
